Crochet Hook:
H hook or size needed for gauge

Special Stitch
Popcorn Stitch - Work 4 dc in stitch indicated, drop loop, insert hook in 1st dc of the 4-dc group, pick up the dropped loop from the 4th dc and pull loop through.

Instructions:

Ch 6, sl st in first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, *ch 3, 3 dc in ring; rep from * twice more; ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3 to form last ch-3 space. (12 dc, 4 ch-3 sps)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same space, *dc in each of next 3 dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp; rep from * twice more; dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, hdc in top of beg ch-3 to form last ch-3 space.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same sp; [*dc in next 3 dc, popcorn in next dc, dc in next 3 dc], (2dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp; rep from * twice; rep between [ ] once; 2 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to form last ch-3 space.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same sp; [*dc in next 4 dc, popcorn in next dc, dc in next st, popcorn in next dc, dc in next 4 dc], (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp; rep from * twice more; rep between [ ] once; 2 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to form last ch-3 space.

(2 popcorns on each side of square)

Rnd 10: Ch 3, dc in same sp; [*dc in each stitch across to corner], (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp; rep from * twice more; rep between [ ] once; 2 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, hdc in 3rd ch of bet ch-3 to form last ch-3 sp.

*****NOTE*****
Depending on your gauge, your square may now measure 12". If it is 11 inches, repeat round 10. If you need another 3/4", repeat round 10 with hdc instead of dc. If you need 1/2", repeat round 10 with sc and with 3 sc in corners instead of the (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) corners.
