    Update and Contest!
2004 ended on a sad note for all of us at HMB with the passing of Diana Smith. Diana was a lovely, caring, giving person and will be missed by all of us. Thanks to all of our supporters in 2004 we have been able to send out 1,036 comfort afghans/shawls/ponchos and 243 Operation Purple Heart afghans. That's a total of 15,348 squares for the year! Wow! At the present time we have 530 Operation Purple Heart and 53 regular requests for comfort afghans pending. Everything we do is internet based. This group is not just one person...."It is a "team effort". Without our supporters we couldn't do what we do. The Annual Heartmade Blessings Squares Contest officially started on January 15th and will run until April 7th. More information about the contest can be found on our Squares Contest page.

    Update
Since 9/11/2001 we have seen the group grow in size with square donators, assemblers and many others that donate yarn and postage assistance. With this growth has come many more requests. Since our beginning in March of 2001, HMB has sent out 380 comfort afghans for the 9/11 Tragedy, 33 comfort afghans for the Operation Columbia tragedy, 1,663 comfort afghans/comfort shawls that were regulat requests and 357 comfort afghans for Operaton Purple Heart for a total of 2,433 recipients of comfort. In addition, another of the HMB members, Gloria Canfield, decided to add her own special touch to the comfort afghans. She designed and started making "GloTotes". This is a tote bag that each comfort afghan is placed in for shipping to the recipient. Not only does the recipient receive a comfort afghan but a usuable tote bag as well. This was a wonderful addition since many of the comfort afghans were wrapped in tissue paper when they were shipped to the recipients. At the present time we have 138 Operation Purple Heart and 39 regular requests for comfort afghans pending. Everything we do is internet based. This group is not just one person..."It is a team effort". Without our supporters we couldn't do what we do. If you wish to help here's what you can do. HMB is always in need of squares, postage donors, fabric donors, and yarn donors. If you would like to help in some way please contact us at afghans@heartmadeblessings.org.

    Project Update
It has been a while since I've updated the news section. We have been really pushing to get comfort afghans assembled and sent for the 9/11 victim's families, Operation Purple Heart, and our regular comfort afghan requests. We sent the last comfort afghan on 9/11 for the Attack on America. As of today, the volunteers that assemble and make squares for Heartmade Blessings have sent out helped us to complete and mail 886 comfort afghans. This number includes 464 comfort afghans for our regular requests, 372 for the victims families of the 9/11 Attack on America and 50 for Operation Purple Heart. Our current project is Operation Purple Heart. Operation Purple Heart is for comfort afghans for the families of the military personnel or anyone else that has lost their life as a result of the War on Terrorism. For these afghans we will be using 12" squares in either red, white and blue, purple or purple and white. If you would like to contribute to this project, please email us at afghans@heartmadeblessings.org for information on where to mail your donation to. The number of assemblers has grown tremendously the last few months. Without the support and dedication of these ladies we could not have provided comfort to so many. In addition, I would like to say thank you to all those that have supported this effort by donating squares. We really do appreciate all the suport we have received over the last 18 months.

    Our Thanks
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all that have responded to our plea for help with this terrible tragedy. The response has been overwhelming and pins are going out as quickly as they come in. We are trying to keep the website updated as much as possible on what has been received and what has been sent, so check back often to see the progress we are making. If you know of someone that has lost a loved one as a result of this Attack on America, please email us at afghans@heartmadeblessings.org with the name of the individual and a mailing address and we will see that a comfort afghan is sent. To date the following have been sent out: 4,350 Pins of Hope 4 Comfort Afghans 74 Baby Snuggles

    September 11th Tragedy
All of us associated with HeartMade Blessings are feeling the shock and disbelief that all of the United States is feeling right now. One of our coordinators lives in Brooklyn, NY so that has really hit home with all of us. Please check out the Pins of Hope and Comfort Afghans sections to see how you can help with the efforts going on in those areas related to the 9/11 attacks.
