Instructions:

Rnd 1:  Ch 4; 11 dc in 4th ch from hook; join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, turn so that wrong side is facing you; working in front loops only, 2 sc in same st, *sc in next 2 dc, 3 sc in next dc* 3 times; sc in next 2 dc, 1 sc in beginning corner; sl st to top of first sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 5, turn so that right side is facing you; working in back loops only, 2 tr in same st, *tr in each st across; (2 tr, ch 1, tr, ch 1, 2 tr) in corner st* 3 times; tr across; 2 tr in first corner, ch 1, sl st into 4th ch of beg ch 5.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, turn so that wrong side is facing you, working in front loops only, 2 sc in same st, *sc across including in the front loop of each ch 1, 3 sc in corner st* 3 times, sc across including in the front loop of the ch 1 spaces, sc in first corner, sl st to first sc.

Repeat round 3 and 4 until square is 12 inches, ending with round 4.  Depending on your gauge and the actual thickness of yarn, at the end you may need to add a row or two of sc to reach 12 inches.
