Instructions

Rnd 1:(Right side)With CC, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring. Ch 5,
(counts as dc & ch 2) (3 dc in ring, ch2) 3 times. 2 dc in ring, join with
sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 5 (12 dc).

Rnd 2: Sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 4 (counts as dc & ch 1) 2 dc in same sp, dc in
next 3 dc *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in corner, dc in next 3 dc). Repeat from *
around to first corner sp.Dc in first corner, join with sl st in 3rd
ch of beg ch 4 (28 dc).

Rnd 3: Sl st in FLO (front loop only) of next ch (mark this ch) *skip
next 3 dc, 11 tr in next FLO of next ch, skip next 3 dc, sl st in FLO of
next corner ch, repeat * once more. Fasten off.

Rnd 4: Right side facing, working in BLO (back loop only) of all sts & chs,
join MC in marked ch of rnd 3. Ch 1, sc in same loop, working behind curves
(tr sts) in skipped dc of rnd 2, sc in next dc, hdc in next, dc in next,
(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in next st, dc in next, hdc in next, sc in next. *Sc in
corner ch, sc in next dc hdc in next, dc in next (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in next dc,
dc in next dc, hdc in next, sc in next dc. Repeat from * twice. Join with sl st
in first sc.(44 st).

Rnd 5: Working in both loops, ch 3, dc in each st across. *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc)
in corner, dc in each st across. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in
3rd ch of beg ch 3 (60 dc).  

Rnd 6: Right side facing. Join CC in any corner, ch 1(sc, ch 2, sc) in same sp.
*Ch 1, sk next st (sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st) across to next corner, (sc,
ch 2, sc) in corner. Repeat from * around omitting last corner. Join with sl
st in first sc. (32 ch 1 spaces)  Fasten off.

Rnd 7: Right side facing. Join MC in any corner. Ch 1, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in
same sp. *2 sc in each ch 1 sp across (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in next corner.
Repeat from * around omitting last corner. Join with sl st in beg sc. (80sc)
Fasten off.

For a larger square do Rnd 7 in dc instead of sc & repeat in rnds until
desired size. Also you could sew 4 6" squares together to make a 12" square.

Heart Edging

Rnd 1: Working in both chs of tr st & in unused lps of remaining sts & chs.
Right side facing, join CC with sl st in first tr of righter curve. Sl st in
next 10 tr, working over next sl st, sl st in rnd 2 corner ch, sl st in next
11 tr, sl st in corner lp, sl st in next 7 lps, (sl st, ch 2, sl st) in corner lp,
sl st in next 7 lps, sl st in corner lp. Join with sl st in first sl st.

Rnd 2: Working across first curve *(ch 4, sl st in next sl st)10 times. *Working
over next sl st, sl st in rnd 2 corner ch, sl st in next sl st. Repeat from * 11
times. (Ch 4, sk next st, sl st in next st) 4 times. Sl st in sl st of lower tip
(ch 4, sk next st, sl st in next st) 4 times. Ch 4, join with sl st in first sl st.
(33 ch 4 sps)  Fasten off.

Bows (optional)

With any color ch 75. Fasten off. Attach to middle of heart (in 2 of the ch 2
sp) & tie into bow.

Roses (optional)

With any color, ch 7, (4dc, sl st) in 2nd ch from hook & in each ch across.
Fasten off. Leaving long end. Curl into rose shape. Using long end, sew curled
rose securely over center heart.
